Vietnam magic in just 9 days!
This was honestly one of the best tours I’ve ever done. Everything from transfers to hotels to meals was so well arranged. Trekking in Sapa was a big highlight, our guide was so patient even when some of us slowed down. Loved the Halong Bay cruise — the boat was super clean and the food was amazing! Hoi An was pure magic, the free days were perfect to explore. 10/10!

If you love real adventure, go!
This wasn’t just sightseeing — it was an experience. Trekking with locals in Sapa, kayaking in Lan Ha Bay, eating bun cha on a tiny street in Hanoi… loved every second. Customer service even WhatsApped to check if the bus pickup was on time. Little things like that make a huge difference.

Very professional & kind team
I had a few worries before the trip but the support team answered everything very fast. During the tour, when I lost my jacket, our guide helped me find a shop in Sapa for a new one. So kind and patient. Vietnam is beautiful but the people made it unforgettable

Great value and fantastic staff
Honestly I wasn’t expecting too much because the price was very good. But wow, the hotels were better than I thought, the buses were new and clean, and guides were super nice. The trek between Y Linh Ho and Lao Chai was breathtaking. Would book with them again, no doubt.

Amazing landscapes, fantastic care
I traveled solo and was a bit nervous, but the team made me feel safe and cared for. Our drivers were very careful on winding mountain roads to Sapa. Trekking was a bit muddy but guides always helped us through. Definitely recommend good trekking shoes!

Essential Packing List for Vietnam
Packing smartly for Vietnam ensures you’re ready for the country’s diverse climates and range of activities.
Here’s what you should definitely bring:
-
Lightweight clothing: Breathable, quick-dry fabrics are ideal for Vietnam’s hot and humid weather, especially in the South and during the summer months.
-
A warm jacket or sweater: If you’re traveling to the North (Hanoi, Sapa, Ha Giang) during winter (November to February), temperatures can drop below 10°C (50°F), especially in mountainous areas.
-
Comfortable walking shoes: Essential for exploring cities, villages, and trekking routes. If you plan to visit temples, easy-to-remove footwear is a plus.
-
Rain gear: A compact umbrella or lightweight rain jacket is a must, particularly during the rainy season (May to October).
-
Swimwear: Don’t forget swimsuits for beach destinations like Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, and cruises in Ha Long Bay.
-
Sun protection: Sunscreen (high SPF), sunglasses, a wide-brimmed hat, and light scarves help protect against strong tropical sun.
-
Medication and first aid kit: Bring any necessary prescription medications, plus basics like anti-diarrheal pills, mosquito repellent (highly recommended for rural and southern areas), pain relievers, and antiseptic cream.
-
Travel documents and copies: Passport, visa (if required), travel insurance details, hotel bookings, flight tickets — and keep both digital and printed copies.
-
Electrical adaptors: Vietnam uses Type A, C, and D outlets (220V). A universal adapter is very useful.
-
Cash in small denominations: Many small shops and local markets accept only cash. ATMs are available in cities, but having cash on hand in rural areas is important.
Bonus tips:
-
A reusable water bottle (many hotels offer refill stations).
-
Lightweight backpack for day trips.
-
A sarong or scarf — handy for temple visits, beach lounging, or covering up during sudden weather changes.

Local Etiquette and Customs
Understanding and respecting Vietnamese customs will not only enrich your travel experience but also earn you warm smiles and genuine hospitality from the locals. Here are some important cultural notes to keep in mind:
Greetings and Respect
-
A friendly smile is the best way to greet anyone in Vietnam. Shaking hands is common, especially among men, but a slight bow or nod of the head shows extra respect, particularly toward elders.
-
When addressing someone, use proper titles based on age and status. “Anh” (older brother), “Chị” (older sister), “Bác” (uncle/aunt) are polite ways to refer to people, even strangers.
-
Avoid patting someone on the head, especially children, as the head is considered sacred in Vietnamese culture.
Dress Code
-
Dress modestly, especially when visiting temples, pagodas, or rural areas. Cover your shoulders and knees, and remove shoes before entering sacred spaces.
-
In beach towns like Nha Trang or Phu Quoc, swimwear is perfectly acceptable by the sea, but it’s courteous to cover up when moving away from the beach.
Temple and Religious Site Etiquette
-
When visiting pagodas or temples, walk quietly, speak softly, and never point your feet at statues or altars.
-
Offer small donations discreetly if you wish, and avoid taking flash photography unless permitted.
Dining Etiquette
-
Wait to be invited to start eating when dining with Vietnamese hosts.
-
In a family or local restaurant setting, elders usually begin eating first.
-
Use both hands when passing dishes or pouring tea as a sign of respect.
-
It’s polite to leave a little food on your plate to indicate you are full.
Social Interaction and Public Behavior
-
Public displays of affection, such as kissing or hugging, are generally frowned upon, especially in rural areas. Holding hands is acceptable among close friends.
-
Bargaining is expected at markets, but always do it with a smile and friendly attitude. A few rounds of negotiation are normal, and staying polite makes the experience enjoyable for both sides.
-
Avoid raising your voice or showing anger publicly; maintaining a calm demeanor is highly respected.
Gifts and Gratitude
-
Small gifts are appreciated when visiting someone’s home. Popular choices include fruits, sweets, or souvenirs from your home country.
-
Gifts should be offered with both hands. When receiving something, it’s polite to accept with both hands and a slight nod.
Photography Etiquette
-
Always ask permission before taking photos of people, especially monks, street vendors, or ethnic minorities in places like Sapa or Ha Giang.
-
Some remote communities consider photography invasive, so a respectful request is important.
Tipping Culture
-
While not mandatory, tipping is becoming increasingly common, especially for good service in hotels, restaurants, and tours.
-
A tip of 5–10% of the bill or around $2–5 USD for drivers and guides is considered generous.
General Travel Etiquette
-
Always carry small change and cash when visiting local markets or small towns, as credit cards are often not accepted.
-
Patience and flexibility are highly valued; things may not always go as planned, but a positive attitude will open many doors and hearts during your journey.
Visa and Entry Requirements
Vietnam has recently updated its visa policies to make traveling easier.
Travelers visiting Phu Quoc Island can enjoy a 30-day visa exemption if they arrive directly at Phu Quoc International Airport or transit through another Vietnamese airport without passing through immigration. You must hold a passport valid for at least six months and show proof of onward travel within 30 days.
For broader travel across Vietnam or stays longer than 30 days, the e-Visa system now covers all nationalities. As of August 15, 2023, travelers can apply online for a single-entry or multiple-entry e-Visa valid for up to 90 days. The process is simple, convenient, and recommended for most visitors.
Additionally, citizens from countries such as the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain benefit from a visa-free entry for stays up to 45 days.
Always check the latest visa rules based on your nationality before traveling to ensure a smooth arrival experience.
Safety Tips and Health Advice
While Vietnam is generally a safe and welcoming country for travelers, staying mindful of a few safety tips and health precautions can help ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip.
General Safety
-
Pickpocketing can occur in crowded areas such as markets, tourist hotspots, and public transportation, especially in major cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Always keep your belongings secure and use a crossbody bag with zippers.
-
Avoid flashing expensive jewelry, cameras, or large amounts of cash in public.
-
At night, stick to well-lit and busy streets. Using reputable taxi services or ride-hailing apps like Grab is recommended over flagging random taxis.
Traffic and Transportation
-
Traffic in Vietnam can be chaotic, especially in big cities. Motorbikes are everywhere, and crossing the street requires patience — walk slowly and steadily, allowing drivers to predict your movement.
-
If you plan to rent a motorbike, ensure you have an international driving permit and always wear a helmet. Accidents involving motorbikes are common among tourists.
Health and Hygiene
-
Tap water is not safe to drink. Always opt for bottled or filtered water, even when brushing your teeth.
-
Stick to reputable restaurants and street food vendors that look busy and clean to avoid stomach issues. Popular dishes like pho and banh mi are generally safe if freshly prepared.
-
Carry hand sanitizer and wet wipes, especially when traveling to rural areas or using public toilets.
Vaccinations and Medical Care
-
It’s recommended to be up-to-date on routine vaccines (measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus) before traveling. Additional vaccines for hepatitis A, typhoid, and in some cases, Japanese encephalitis are advised if you plan to visit rural or remote areas.
-
Pharmacies are widely available in cities and towns. However, it’s smart to bring a basic first-aid kit, any personal medications, and a copy of your prescriptions.
Mosquito Protection
-
Dengue fever is present in Vietnam, especially during the rainy season (May to October). Protect yourself by using mosquito repellent with DEET, wearing long sleeves and pants in the evening, and staying in accommodations with proper mosquito nets or air conditioning.
Natural Disasters and Weather
-
Vietnam experiences typhoons mainly from June to November, affecting coastal areas. Always check the weather forecast, especially if you plan on traveling to beach destinations like Nha Trang or Phu Quoc during these months.
-
In mountainous areas like Sapa or Ha Giang, landslides can occur during heavy rains — follow local advice and travel advisories when trekking.
Travel Insurance
-
Comprehensive travel insurance covering medical emergencies, theft, and trip cancellations is highly recommended. Medical costs for serious incidents can be high, and having insurance offers peace of mind.
Emergency Numbers
-
113: Police
-
114: Fire Department
-
115: Ambulance and Medical Emergency
